Science Quiz 4

The next edition of the Science Quiz took place at the Dungeon Pub in Bratislava on Tuesday, November 5, 2024. The golden place was defended by the team Livermórium.

Throughout the year, the Science Quiz was held in several locations during various events organised at SAS. After a long hiatus, it was possible to organise the quiz again in its original full-length format for the public.  The event was hosted by the Dungeon Pub with a relaxed and informal atmosphere. There were 8 teams of 3 to 4 people competing. Among them were young scientists from different institutes of the SAS, as well as science enthusiasts. Seasoned teams, who have been attending the Science Quiz since its first edition, also tested their knowledge. This evening also brought three different topics not only on a scientific note.

News from the world of SAS opened the quiz with the first ten questions. In this first round, the questions were selected from the scientific results of the institutes of all three scientific departments of the SAS. The contestants thus reflected on research from forecasters to zoologists at the Academy. The second round consisted of ten questions linking the world of superheroes and science. Contestants pondered what it would look like if the Flash had to change the source of his energy and super-fast running to our normal diet, or how the legendary reactor that powers Iron Man’s suits works. The teams searched for phenomena that are a common part of the comic book world, as well as the real one, in various scientific and technical names. The last, or third round of questions was made up of interesting facts about board games – their history, up to the latest titles. Legends of the past decades, such as Racing and Betting, or new party games that are currently enjoying a surge in popularity, were not left out. Among the questions, there were also interesting facts from the Guinness Book of World Records.

Each team scored at least half of the possible points. The winning team “Livermore” took the first place with 23 points and thus defended its golden place from the previous quiz. In second place was the team “Fasten your seat belts” with 20 points. The third place had to be decided by a shootout question, as no less than three teams scored 19 points. In the end, the team “Viem, že nič neviem” had the most accurate answer out of the three. However, all teams said goodbye in a positive mood, and enriched with new knowledge.

The Council of Young Researchers of the SAS thanks all the competitors for their participation. Keep an eye on our social networks so that you don’t miss the next Science Quiz!
